What is the value of online learning and collaboration?

A retired long-time teacher once told me that I am a 20th century student preparing to be a 21st century educator.  This struck me and has stuck with me.  I think that I will have to be aware of and embrace this notion.

Online or collaborative online work is something that could greatly enhance material for my students if used effectively.  I have learned about countless online tools that might enrich the learning in my classroom.  I posted about one of these online/collaborative learning websites, Join Me, and have witnessed very intriguing presentations about countless others.

I think online learning and collaboration is important to consider when trying to build the best learning environment for my students.  I think I would be doing my students a disservice if I did not encourage them to use the resources available to them to the best possible effect.

We learned about an amazing Web 2.0 tool tonight in Technology and Topics.  It is called Join Me.  It is a resource that lets one share his or her screen with people and share information across the 'cloud'. 

It is a great tool for collaborating and working together on different things.  I really liked using it and could see myself utilizing it in the future.
